I Collect Smiles I went to the airport and got on a train. Thoughts like that do things to my brain. At the end of the line i arrived downtown. I started walking and thought "let's see what's going down." I stopped on a red light and to my surprise, in a dusty SUV sat Jesus, tears streaming from his eyes. "Geez, the King of Peace is crying," i thought. It came out, "Hey dude, what's wrong?" He looked up at me, around his tears, and i saw that which caused folks to throng. If you don't know, i'll admit, i use the eyes to look into people. But this one was different, i almost wanted to build a steeple! Then, "Yes, Lord," came out all jumbled, as "Dude, you're cool, but i'm not one of yours." To which he frowned, so i hadn't mumbled. a voice like music said, "then why care if i cry?" I said, "Dude, i walk the Way that i know," "and i know it very well." "To me...all this...is Heaven," "and there is no place called Hell." "I don't need any 'afterlife,'" "this one was hard enough - such travails!" He laughed like an orchestra. I'm like, "whazzup?" "That i know, friend. My first time, they used nails!" For once in my life, i said, "thanks, Jesus." "But look, the light's changed and i'm going miles." The eyes i'd just dried blinked a curious, "Why?" I said, "I'm weird, dude. I collect smiles." see why i use this name?...tom ----- How come it seems that the best dry-cleaning shops are always run by pint-sized Chinese ladies who know just enough English that after you put the clothes in the back seat, sit down, and start the car, you think, "what the heck did she say?" |
