got your call today,
heard "hey how are you"
"pretty good I said"
tired and my voice hurts,
"can you do lunch? you asked"
"have missed you",
"not today, too many
meetings, and I am still training",
paged you later that afternoon, "are you free
for a few now"? got the page back,
"no I am buried in work", was the reply,
tonight? "will be home late tonight"
"lunch tomorrow"? "will have to see
page me"...."free for lunch"? paged back
"just not my day", got a different page
"dinner at your place"? "can't, late meeting"
"dinner at yours"?? "that would be
great, but I don't cook" you replied
I laughed, and called you....
this weekend, I promise.....
I paged you again
before going into my meeting
"hey I miss you"....
sitting in the meeting, tapping my pencil
against the table,
felt the vibration of the pager

"Hey I miss you too"

I think we've paged all of our selves into another chapter...

I don't know that I like the ending...

I guess I'm old fashioned.  It took me a long time to get an answering machine.  Your poem shows us how hard it is to find time today.  I think we have to many options for getting messages to each other.  In a way, it makes life more conplicated.  Once again, I liked the old days when the phone was either busy or not.  You did a fine job.  Roger

I have a friend just like this.  She's so hard to catch up with.  So much for technology...  Good one!
