The Curled Dimple
(in memory of Michelle)

It was the first time
that I felt you round me,
as my girl belly
became taught with your curled dimple.

I hooked my jeans with a rubber band
you stretched me so.

It was amazing to see you
beat just under my skin.
You were a foot print
that I still feel,
like the sureness of thirst
that takes one barefoot across a desert.

Your becoming, focused me
and your curved fingers hit a place
that still holds the bruise.

I have not stirred your foot
into the hardness of plaster.
But, as if it hung on my wall,
I can still see the love,
invisible, yet sure and mighty,
that you squealed into my arms
so long ago with

the meaning of "mother".

What a unique way to show the meaning of motherhood.   I cannot wait until I have the oppertunity to be a mother myself someday.  Wonderful writing, I enjoyed it very much.

Martie you made an imprint on my heart with this poem. What a wonderful gift you have given us. I can see your child run to your arms. Fear not, your angel is still with us, protecting us is some way.

Martie,
You somehow put into words an invisible bond felt in flesh and spirit, a love so deep for unborn child, it seems impossible to describe, and yet you do, so exquisitly. What a beautiful and endearing tribute to Michelle. One that will long be remembered. And what an appropriate treasure to mark your 7000th post
Congratulations, dear friend
God bless you
Liz

Dear Friends...thank you so much for your treasured replies.  Michelle, was my first born and I know you know how special the feeling is to be pregnant for the first time...like Liz said, it is very hard to describe, and I haven't really given it it's full brightness or complete tenderness.  Happy Mother's Day to all of you who are mothers...and hugs to everyone!!
