The Lovely Rose She walks more slowly than before And sometimes leans a little more But when the sunlight hits her face That’s when she shows her lovely grace Her speech is hard to understand There’s trembling in her aging hand But when the sun dries up the dew It is a rose that looks at you She rises with the early dawn And gazes out across the lawn And in your heart you see the way She savors every single day She opens up her heart and sings Unfolds her charming velvet wings Her beauty and her frangrance shows She is a lovely, lovely rose It is not step or awkward ways That we remember of her days It is the smile and sweet perfume That radiate across the room Her speech is numbed, her movements few But when she glances up at you From year to year, above it all It is the rose that we recall Elizabeth Santos |

This so terrifically beautiful! It's as if it is a tribute no, better than that, I can't think of a word that would do it justice...but a savoring of one's mother. In a time when age is ticking away at her, her beauty shines through, strengthened by the years it has endured. Lovely, Elizabeth, lovely. I think I should love to send this poem to a friend whose mother is in a very weakened era of her life. May I? |

VAS, I would feel honored if you gave it to your friend or if it were read to patients in a nursing home, etc. It's never too late to tell your mother how beautiful she is, no matter her condition. She will always be beautiful. Thank you for your kind remarks Liz |

There is beauty in every face a twinkle a glow arch of lid breath of flower and to trace line and form is no miracle to sleight of hand but the heart light that grows and cascades from within |
