Grating in concrete, Abandoned for the winter, Generating heat. Steam clouds roll from the street following wind, Whether a cool breeze from off the Chesapeake, Detroit steel causing swirling on passing, Or near calm letting the steam slowly creep. The forgot half living have moved along; Tattered old rags fall unclaimed on the ground. Showing dirty skin to wash in the rains, Cold drops of a spring showering pound, Caught in cupped hands with brown nicotine stains. The forgot half living just move along; Under overpasses a concrete roof, Bums, hobos and derelicts just gather, To pass bagged bottles of some unknown proof, And when as empty as them they scatter. Once gathering steam, From ice and snows of winter, A wanderer's dream. Gloom |
