Of A Fallen Butterfly

How pale and sad by comparison
Is the lost beauty of the red, red rose?
Next to the glorious wonder of the butterfly
Of Its magic metamorphosis that leaves us in awe

Her colours exquisite as a haunting sunset
Her flutter the envy of all winged in a fauna
Flawless and perfect to those who seek her
For she is the chosen one

The only living soul of God’s creatures
Getting that ever wanted second chance
Sins of one hardly noticed, but what of these?
With wings, unrecognizable and all forgiven

I have been witness to the preposterous
Yet, with mine own eyes I will declare it
Think me laughable if you will
Perhaps even declare my sanity questionable

That once, not so long ago
I was a spectator to this amazing event
Only it was magnificently vice versa
As incredibly odd as it sounds, I will swear it

She flickered and flirted for all to view
So jolly in her joy for the others jealousy
And I watched her with narrow eyes
For she committed a great sin, and it was vanity

Why would one whose slate once wiped so clean
Be so foolish to trite with Mother Nature?
Could it have been too much conceitedness or pride?
Her excessive belief that interfered with the grace of God

For whatever the reason may be
She withered away over time and I couldn’t help but watch
First the distorting of her precious gloss
And then her wings did begin to fray
For the entire world to see, she was transformed

So what became of her and where is she now?
Alone, clinging to a collapsing branch
And yet, through all that has happened
It is her ignorance or should I say vanity?
That keeps her an ugly creepy crawly

An excellent showing of different images here Marina.  The comparison is wonderful.

You've done well with this one.  I've missed reading your work here.

Now I KNOW we're not talking about any butterflies I KNOW!!!

But this is an unusual perspective, I like the phrasing of your thoughts here, Marina, very visual and reminded me of finding a dried butterfly wing---I HATE when that happens. Great work!!!

Marina, I don't know about your lost version of this same poem...but this was totally amazing. A total visual journey with this piece. Great read.

Passions Voice, thank you for such a lovely compliment.

Serenity, was I just THAT obvious??

James, thank you.  But I like I told you, I really much preferred the original.  I was very upset when I lost it.  I'm glad that you liked this version anyway.

Kathleen, thank you so much.  I love the picture!
