A Study in Longing
Virginia Salter

longing lasts so long
why can’t it be shortened
hmmm
I guess it wouldn’t be longing, then,
it’d be shortening
and that’s for pies
and deep-frying
things that are probably a lot worse for me
but, you’ve got to admit,
they sure taste a lot better!!!

Ssshhsh! Where did you hide the shortening? I'm baking a pie. Wonderful idea for a poem.
