(Forgive me for borrowing your title, Dear Sunshine.  1962 brings back sadder memories for me.)

I found it today, lying in a box
Of old snapshots. Some were faded and torn.
A picture of the five of us together.
You, I, the girls and our beloved firstborn.

I look so young, but you are much too thin.
I judge our son to be near seventeen.
I guess that would make our two sweet daughters
Still so very young, fourteen and fifteen.

He is taller than you were by and inch
Or two, and is near his final height. While
His sisters, almost as tall as I am,
Each showing a beguiling woman's smile.

My belted waist is so smugly narrow.
I know how you would laugh with me and tease;
If you could see me hiding my middle
With a cover-up nearly to my knees.

We seem so happy, yet I wonder why,
I didn't notice that you were so thin,
In this last picture of the five of us;
Before all of the sad, bad times begin.

Thank you Dear Sunshine.  Your title seemed so apt, I just borrowed it.  My poem had been titled,  The Snapshot.  He died suddenly of a massive heart attack on July 4, 1962. Goodness, that's soon forty years.

Our precious son died Feb. 22 1999.Joyce

Joyce,

I found this very touching and heartfelt.  I could see those snapshots vividly.  This is good writing.  Thank you.

Life does go on, doesn't it in spite of tragedy. To everything there is a season and a purpose under heaven. Enjoyed your snapshot of the past with it touches of humor.. It is also funny how we are able to view those all photos seeing things we couldn't see then.
