My Writing Desk by Michael Late afternoon sun falls through window, casting golden rays upon my writing desk, upon these artist’s hands as I sit to write. I’ve never really considered myself a poet. I’ve been an artist since childhood and it’s quite by accident that I learned to write. Four crimson roses bounce against the glass, pushed by a steady breeze. I sit distracted, watching as bees dart back and forth in their eternal cycle of pollination. Lately I’ve been framing 5 x 7 inch photographs of friends and hanging them on the wall next to me. It’s nice to see those smiling faces looking back, knowing that somewhere I live inside each one of them. Raising the window to let in some air, the noise frightens off a hummingbird. If only it had known that I’m not capable of harm. I sit here thinking about everything except writing. I’m procrastinating as usual. The roses against the screen have such a inviting fragrance. For some reason, the scent of flowers always reminds me of women. Two candlesticks rest upon my desk for writing late into the night. I’ve always liked writing by the amber glow of candles, watching as they flicker, trying to imagine what it felt like in days of old to be a writer. I use a real quill in the wee of morning that I made many years ago. It works well and even a bad poem looks nice when penned with quill, using black ink on parchment. I’ll leave my desk for awhile and go outside to watch the bees and take in the flowered fragrance. Proust- |

This is lovely. I think every true poet such as yourself is first an artist. Joyce |

Michael Thank you for painting such a vivid picture as to where your written works of art are penned......I could smell those crimson roses and your description of the whole scene was wonderful....I felt like I was there enjoying the sweet fragrance of your roses. I thoroughly enjoyed this Michael, thank you......Sue Suetang |

You moved from the artist and poet into an image-giver with this lovely piece, Michael. Thank you! |

Interloper, Thank you for visiting and enjoying this much too-long piece. Sorry, just got carried away and didn't know when to stop writing. :-) Joyce, I know a lot of artists that are poets, so I guess I'm no exception. Darn! :-) Thanks, Joyce. Marge, I'm glad you liked the "feel" of this piece and I appreciate you reading, my friend. Martie, I like sharing pieces of my days with you, as I enjoy sharing parts of yours. Thank you, my friend. walker, You're very sweet and much too kind. My only secret is writing from the heart and if that helps my writing touch others, than all the better. Thank you. Sami, I'm glad you could feel the "peace" in this one. That was intention. Thanks Sue, I thought you were here. :-) A part of you that I keep within me was here, my friend. Thank you. Sven, Thank you, my friend. I'm glad you could find time to stop by and read. :-) Elizabeth Anne, You are always so kind and your responses and I look forward to each one. Thanks, sweetie. Mysteria, I'd be willing to bet that if you'd opened the window, the hummingbird wouldn't have been frightened away. :-) Thank you. Coco, Thanks for the "eloquent" and for reading this piece. Janet, I'm still framing photos and not surprisingly, many of them are of poet friends. :-) Thank you Karilea, I think every writer needs a window as a source of distraction. I appreciate you reading this, my friend. Thank you. :-) Proust- |

Michael, I would love to have a view like that while I write but I guess you're right. The view would be distracting. Dee I wish you every happiness and may you always have the best of the good things in life. a brand |

Michael... I love the part where you have your friend's pictures hanging by your desk, and how you are happy because a part of you is living inside each of them. That's all each of us really have....a chance to be a part of each other's lives. This poem is really special to me today....thank you Michael. Live...Love...Be grateful for both!! I breathed in the poem, smelled those flowers and watched the hummingbird. Good job. "I am not now that which I have been." |

Lauren, Yes, seeing those photos always helps to remind me of just how important I am in the lives of my friends and much a part of my own life they are. On the same wall are some paintings I have done, a calendar from a sweet friend in Australia, a plaster cast I made of my son's foot when he was only seventeen days old. Treasures, each one of them, to wake my day with a smile and remind me of how fortunate I am. Thank you, my friend. I'm sorry I got carried away and rambled on so. Michael Proust- |
