I can no more hold you than I can hold
     a shadow.
Yet here I stand as my empty arms burn in
     the sun,
chasing clouds that hold your shape then
     fade away.
I watch dogwood blooms shaken loose by
    the wind
and recall the way I could always shake laughter
    from you,
even when to hear it I'd have to look into
    your eyes.
When there are no more blooms for the wind to
    shrug down,
nor any lonely clouds left floating across these
     sun-baked skies,
then all will be gone and I'll be left to hold only
     your shadows.

A nicely written piece.  Sometiems shadows are the hardest things to hold onto.  I enjoyed this a lot!  :-)

You always made me laugh dear. All the time. I'd just look at you and smile...and I suspect you always will..even across space, distance. Always remember what I said about seven days and magic and manna ok...

You can't hold a shadow...and I really am not a shadow...

thanks for this, can't find the words for it...

Now, you'd better explain to Mmy about what happened to the italics J...lol

Such a lovely heartfelt piece, and distance mean naught in the way of love!  This was a beautiful piece of poetry from a loving heart.

"When there are no more blooms for the wind to shrug down". I loved this line.

"I am not now that which I have been."
