~*~ Beam Of Light ~*~

I had to escape the rat race, I was so burnt out, and beat,
My mind was all hazed over; I just couldn't understand.
I fled from the tangle of concrete and streets,
To seek comfort in B.C.'s untouched greenbelt land.

For a couple of days, I just roamed the terrain,
The forests and paths that covered many a mile,
Renewed by my spirit, I almost forget I'd lost my love,
It made it bearable to be all alone for a while.

On a sunny day I grew weary and decided to sleep,
Beneath the sheltering arms of a mighthy B.C. pine,
A bed of needles there was so thick and so deep,
I lay down to let the sounds of nature lull my mind.

I slept so soundly, and awoke to morning's light,
A brilliant beam of sunlight shone through the pine tree.
It struck me full square in my slow waking face,
Giving warmth, caressing, and welcoming me.

It was then I noticed there was yet another light beam,
Falling so gently in such a way both beams crossed over,
My heart sank at the sight of this waking light,
As it caressed the forest floor covered in clover.

It was then I realized the fact that I was really alone,
Without you beside me to share in this wonderful light,
I felt the emptiness in my heart, the void in my soul,
I was overcome with sadness that I was unable to fight.

For you see there were two beams of light, one on me,
And the other was shining on where you used to be.
On the way back down the hill, somehow I knew,
The beam of light sent me message...
To try to move on, and set my broken heart free.

Just a poem

This is lovely, Mysteria... You've a bittersweet message to tell here - and you do it beautifully. The morning light that shines upon us is perhaps the most emotionally enlightening of any other time of day... and your setting is exquisite.

...such a pristine greenbelt, and an outstanding write.  I really enjoyed the description and meaning behind the two beams of light, and I could identify with the empty feeling one gets when a beautiful experience cannot be shared with the one you love...

I remember the first Easter without my children.. it just was not the same and hasn't been since. Your poem took me on this journey to where loved ones go. Beautiful picture, Sharon, really nice poem.   Kate

Mysteria~
Such poignancy, laced in lovely vision.
A wonderful write - a pleasurable read.

Jellybean King: I know this feeling of emptiness well, could write a book!  Thanks for reading it, and isn't my home beautiful?

Kate: Nothing worse that re-travelling roads we shared with our children and doing it alone, is there any feeling that can be more empty, than not sharing with our children?

Marge:  Do you have any idea what your approval means to me?  Nope - I didn't think so ... well, it makes me want to try even harder, thank you.
