Road Hum Miles and miles of concrete and blacktop passing under my wheels. Hours and hours of road hum, DJ speak, radio music, tears drying in the wind of open windows, lonesome rest stops, hamburger joints the temptation to drink. Another night, another campground, me and my tent, cooking fire, coffee pot… "Hello." Two blue eyes, dishelved dusty-blonde hair, dirty clothes, thongs and chipped, red toenails. "Sure like some of that coffee?" Long summer night flying past in moments, hours and hours of talk, hugs…tears. Sharing of souls between campfire and tent, coffee long gone, not needed. Morning light, two blue eyes, dishelved dusty-blonde hair, dirty clothes, thongs and chipped, red toenails, leaving…because I'm going home, where love was strong, and will be strong again. w. james beard, jr. © March 2000 [This message has been edited by jwesley (edited 04-28-2001).] |

To think of strangers meeting, sharing, caring, never to see one another again. Good read! |
