The fireplace
A focal point
I'd designed the house
The entire architecture
Around it
Even the staircase
Spectacular in itself
Built to focus on the
Source of flames

But for what
Three years in design
Discarded sketches
A thousand erasures

What part of a loving space
Makes one feel welcome
Imagine a ceiling
Three stories above you
A raised circular firebed
Surrounded by sunken seating
To carry away the smoke
A huge shallow cone
Of steel hovers above the bed
Hung from a tube
Soaring up through the roof

Yet, as much as this
Commands the eyes
You know though it
Could sit a dozen plus
My pen works for two
So I design as always
Only for you

The first duty of love is to listen.

Wonderful designs Bill.  Enjoyed your words dear friend.

Puts one in the mind of a grand old Frank Lloyd Wright home, expressive, charming, and so seductive!  A very wonderful read, thank you!

I'm sorry - finances prvent me from building this multimillion dollar home - and i lack the computer skill to create the plans for viewing here- (but then you don't get to 'see' the object of my affection either) suffice to say I thank you - I greatly appreciate your responses

As much as I love fireplaces, I love the ending to this poem even more. *S* "My pen works for two So I design as always Only for you"... Who could ask for more? *S* Well done!
