The Flower of my Day I prayed a prayer as I was weeping For I did not have in my keeping One small flower in my day My heart is laden now with sorrow Please ,dear Lord, in my tomorrow Dispel these heavy clouds of gray The Lord then said, you have a garden But there are times that you must pardon Those who faltered on the way Open up to heart’s completeness Let every person that you meet become the flower of your day I prayed a prayer, at hour of midnight I said, dear Lord each dawn in daylight Not a single rose I see Just despair has graced my window Only winds of pain and sorrow Are blowing through the willow tree The Lord said, Look, there is an arbor In which your heart can safely harbor From oppression of the day The roses bloom when your heart’s giving Each single moment that you’re living Is the flower of your day My loneliness was my own heart That chose to live and breath apart And never stop to say A word of kindness to another Extending hand to needy brother No flowers on the way I looked toward heaven in joy I felt With arms outstretched I humbly knelt In shadows of the moonlit glows I thanked the Lord for all He said And there upon my midnight bed A thousand petals of a rose I raised my window of despair And let them float into the air And no one truly knows How much another will be blessed And how it’s given happiness To touch another with the petals of a rose Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 04-22-2001).] |

Earlier today I thought "we've not had our Lady Santos' to read" and had hoped, before rushing off, to go back and raise one of your beautiful poems up for everyone's enjoyment. But you heard my heart, and posted a new one. How kind He is! |

If the rose petals touch as beautifully as your poetry, the world is truly blessed... |
