I Dream Not by Michael Alone I sit beneath the stars and I dream not. This canopy of twinkling, icy lights has lost its lure. The very air I breathe, assaulted by man's greed. Water has the stench of money's lust. Condoms, needles, soil the ocean sands. Birds are born with deformities. The habitats and species daily lost. Diseases in the food we eat. I watch as dying earth so longs to heal. It seems that all mankind forgot to feel. Proust- |

Michael, now you know why I am grateful to be where I am, for now....people are moving into the area where commercialism reigns, the fathers who were the sons of the farmers not realizing what they do...in selling off land....we don't grow any more land.... that is why we hold on to what we have.... and care for it as we may.... and not willingly allow it up for blacktopping.... very good Sir....I hope people will hear. |

Michael--There are so many things that need to be treated with more respect...and if we can't treat the very basic things this way...how can we instill in our children such values...Thank you for posting this well written poem. |

Michael~ Poignancy so real in this render. I dare to dream of a time that the land is returned to it's natural abundance. Perhaps not in our time ... perhaps never ? But if dreaming could make it so .... ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Remember the old 60's song... "They Paved Paradise and Put Up a Parking Lot" ? That's how I feel every morning driving to work down a road which was once lined with woods and pastures, old farms and lakes. Now it's just one more in the succession of shopping centers every time I look. It seems Man will not be happy until he has paved every patch of green left on this earth. Very poignant poem Michael..
