Need to write,
a plea to astound.
(need to purge)
Say something,
(anything) profound.
My pen is silent
no muse to be found.
Alone and lonely,
and silence ...
makes a lonesome sound.

You always leave
when I need you the most.
Slipping into the shadows,
incantated poetic ghost.
Words and images
dance in my head.
But they remain locked away,
silenced instead.

Oh muse of mine--
do you even miss me?
You tempt and tease,
deceive and dismiss me.
You leave me feeling muted,
confused and tired.
Worst of all--
so damned cliche'd and uninspired.
You take my rhymes,
turn them into ash and dust.
Cast my verse into curse,
burn all my desires into lust.
Leaving me desperate,
ready to sell my soul in trade.
Dance with the devil,
break all my promises made.

Without you ...
I've lost my way,
Without you ...
I've no words to say.
I need you here ...
but your gone to stay.
On bended knee
I now plead and pray.
Oh muse of mine ...
be my morns golden ray.
Return my words ...
by merciful light of day.

Janet Marie

Hard To Hold

All I ever wanted was to love you ...
all I ever needed ... I found in you.
I gave you my heart and soul ...
God, it was just so easy to do.
I whispered in your sorrow's silence ...
I shared all my secrets untold.
All I ever wanted was to hold you ...
but baby you're hard to hold.

Tell me what you want from me ...
tell me what I'm supposed to do.
I've cried a thousand tears ...
and I lived and died inside of you.
I always thought we were forever ...
that together we'd gracefully grow old.
All I ever wanted was to hold you ...
but baby, sometimes you're hard to hold.

How many love songs can I sing for you ...
how many poems do I need to write.
How many times do we have to try ...
before we finally get it right.
To you I would give all my falling stars ...
the moon so blue, the sun of gold.
All I ever wanted was to hold you ...
but baby you're so hard to hold.

Now your gone again ...
and I'm left alone with this pain.
I'm becoming lost in this silence ...
and I'm screaming out your name.
Once warmed by your light ...
now I'm left in the dark so cold.
All I ever wanted was to hold you ...
but baby you're so damn hard to hold.

All I ever wanted was to hold you ...
but baby you're just so hard to hold.
Still I'll die trying ...
I'm gonna love ya till I'm old.

about a muse long gone a week

I enjoyed both poems, but especially related to "Muted Muse." Hun, your pen will never dry out, nor will your muse ever hide, you're far too talented for that to happen If only I could write like you, your muse is magic!

Take care,

I've always thought Hard to Hold would be a good song. Now Muted Muse kinda has a musical quality too. Always good poetry from that muse, whether she's there or MIA.

Seems your Muted Muse has been Hard to Hold but it hasn't stopped you from writing what is in your soul.
I enjoyed both poems but hate to see someone in pain. Sometimes we just need to find another Muse.

If you ever need to find that muse JM ... Balladeer and I have a map to MuseLand, LOL! Fickle things they are, running off when we least desire. It sure appears you've found a lovely substitue though Janet Marie ... both poems have such a beautiful lyrical quality about them, very nice my friend, very lovely indeed!

Best wishes and hugs,

Janet--I don't think you need a muse,
just look,
I mean, I'm so confused,
here you say can't right a thing
but in my ear
I hear you ring.

thanks all for indulging me ever moody muse ...

Sun ... LOL at a "week long gone" ... actually I wrote this back at the first of the year
when I was in a dry spell, I never posted it as I dont really care for it...but I noticed so many of us of late have been doing reposts and lots of talk about missing muses...
so I thought it was a good time to do some spring cleaning and post it.
thank you for the clever poetic reply

Sea ... you're so biased that your adorable
me thanks ya...and so does me fickle muse.
This is definately not one of my best..but then thats the point when our muses are on leave.
Hard to Hold is an old fav and I thought it went well with this new one...and me muse is HTH too.

Isabella .. thank you for the terrific and Welcome to Passions.

Melis .. thank you sweets for such a great reply ... but your muse is every bit as gifted and even better...uniquely YOU

PK ... thank you kindly poet sir ... from me and me moody missing muse
sometimes I'm not sure if she's MIA ..or AWOL *L*

inot2B .. thank you for the clever wordplay reply ... and Im not in as much pain as the poems may read....chalk some of it up to poetic license, but everyone always says my writings seem sad ... gotta blame it on "me moody muse"

Kit ... me thinks me muse stole the map and headed for the beach LOL ...
thank you for hearing the melody in this...now I'll try for harmony with me muse
thanks sweet poetess.

Martie ... that ringing is from me trying to sing LOL ... thank you sweets..for the poetic reply ... sometimes I get so frustrated with me muse...when I see so many
proficient poets who write 3-4 a day( we wont mention any names).....
(Sunshine, Doreen, Serenity) ...(hey who said that) *L*
I used to write that often with ease...now Im lucky for one a week..for what ever reasons...(moth poet ) *L*
but I am ALWAYS grateful for what ever me muse gives me

thanks all and I guess writers block and moody muses is all part of being a poet...
we dont have to like it.. just learn to respect it

JM,
Well Randy went to find your muse
Took along a bottle of booze.
Left a note of which I quote
"I'll be back on the next slow boat."
I guess that say's it all.
Wonderful poem, loved it.

JM: I'd read this and loved it... but tried to be good and wait to reply until I got to it in my backwards reading plan. *S* But then, I think you shared your server problems! LOL For just as I started to reply, our system crashed... so badly we actually got to leave a half hour early after an afternoon completely lacking productivity. *S*

Now... what was it I was gonna say? LOL

damned cliche'd and uninspired? You???? Never, sweet lady. And fortunately for us, your moody muse is never gone to stay, however much she might tease and torment you by not being ever at your beck and call. *G*

"All I ever wanted was to hold you ...
but baby you're just so hard to hold.
Still I'll die trying ...
I'm gonna love ya till I'm old."

I love the entire poem, but these lines so well define loving the elusive... it's something we do, whether successful or not. *S* Wonderful work, dear poet!!!!
