Mother's Life |

My mother's life was structured, by calendar and clock. You would never find her unprepared, in caring for her flock. Monday was for washing, and her wisdom she would share, As she praised the worth of cleanliness to my unhearing ear. Tuesday was for ironing, please leave no wrinkles there. This to a slothlike daughter, who didn't seem to care. Wednesday was for baking, I still taste her wondrous bread. She'd reward me with a still warm slice, with homemade butter spread. Thursday was for sewing, and mending all the clothes. My rough and tumble brothers, provided lots of those. Friday was for cleaning, I tried to hide that day. She didn't think much of lazy girls who only got in her way. Saturday was for shopping, the favorite day for me. She'd take me with her into town, the newest fads to see. Sunday was the day for church, and for us Sunday School. She wanted us to grow up right, to learn the golden rule. Oh Mother, darling Mother, how could you do so much, And still have time to care for us, with your dear, loving touch? We never felt neglected, for you were always there. You'd take time from your duties, to wipe away each tear. When God looked down and took you, we didn't think it fair, But I guess he needed order, and someone to keep it there. If there are lazy angels, you'll soon bring them into line. And we know since Mother got there, heaven is doing fine. by: Joyce Johnson 2000 |

Joyce, how this touched my heart...we did not lead so different a life, you and I...except that I was not allowed to be lazy...although I had a lazy brother...LOL... This is wonderful. I'm borrowing it for my library, I hope you don't mind!? |

Dear Joyce: I enjoyed this so much. All of the women in our family lived their lives like this when I was small and I carried it into my own married life for a long time. I finally decided life did not have to be lived on such a strict schedule. I worked for many years and I had to fit housework into a new set of rules. Betty Lou Hebert |

Lovely, lovely, lovely! So so familiar. Our grocery shopping day was Saturday. I grew up hating Saturday and until leaving home, and having been gone a few years, I didn't know why. I always felt awful on that day, headachy and yucky inside. I finally discovered it was the car ride filled with smoke from her cigarettes. I must say, I certainly need more routine to my chores, as they seldom get done the way I go about it. |
