The grains of sand fall from the hourglass, as the hours of my life pass before me. I see my family, my friends, waiting on me to make my fateful decision. As each grain falls from up above, blood continues along the paths, through veins, feeding my heart. The glass walls are thin, brittle, as are the walls to my soul. God uses a different piece to keep track of our lives. How we spend that time is our choice to make. Those who are near know how I yearn for peace and joy, love and warmth, companionship. The hourglass is emptying itself fast. There are questions that I need answered, feelings that I still need to experience, goals set that are still not complete. Perhaps I should continue to live, to explore, to grow. The last few grains descend. The time has come for me to decide which path I shall walk. “I think I shall continue to fight.” I say to worried family and friends. With those words, I have chosen life. Then the final, sandy, granule descends, I flip the hourglass, turning it upside-down. TkB © Copyright 2000 All Rights Reserved Dance with me under the moon. Touch my pale skin. Devour me. Love me. |
