Scorned Lover’s Pain

The pain I feel stinging my heart
grows more than I thought it could
as I realize how you really felt.
You didn’t love me like I thought.
The past year is now a cruel nightmare.
I blush with humiliation and embarrassment
At the fool I must have appeared to be.
I opened my heart willingly… blindly.
Now it cries with disbelief in the knowledge
that I was nothing more than a game.
That the gentle words and sweet whispers
were promises you never intended to keep.
My soul cries with predestined pain
The future we talked so tenderly about.
The blessed marriage of souls we’d share,
and the children we’d love and raise,
were just words that rolled easily off your tongue.
How could I have let myself be so foolish?
How could I fall into the trap of thinking
that my prince charming has finally come.
My heart rejects me, my soul feels lost
as I try to figure out how to move on.
Move on so alone and disgraced by
your broken promises and my broken dreams.

I know the disappointment...we want the one we are with to be the right one...better to find out before marriage that it was not a match...James
