Words From The Past
~*Marge Tindal*~

Don't tell me again that Elvis is dead !
And those that do the sightings are out of their heads !
I know what I see - I know what I hear
I'm still aware of Elvis crooning softly in my ear

I saw the King Of Rock And Roll fame
at Heartbreak Hotel - one and the same.
In Blue Suede Shoes so out of style
that teens on the street corner started to smile.

I wanted to scream Don't Be Cruel to this man.
he's still The King across this musical land.

Then Elvis turned on that lopsided grin,
picked up his guitar, started singing again.
Crooned his way through Love Me Tender
then sang again my favorite render

Across the crowd out on the square
he asked if I'd be his - Teddy Bear.
Most of the songs, causing me to remember
he took me along with words so tender.

Just before his gig was through
he softly strummed Loving You
Had those newbies on their feet
Encore !  Encore !  their repeat

Then across reminisced notes of the night
I heard his voice in whispered quiet
sing these Words to me ...

Smile an everlasting smile
A smile can bring you near to me
Don't ever let me find you gone
'Cause that could bring a tear to me

These words have lost their glory,
Let's start a brand new story, now my love
Right now there'll be no other time
And I can show you all my love

Talk in everlasting words
And dedicate them all to me
I will give you all my life
It's here if you should call to me

You think that I don't even mean
A single word I say
It's only words and words are all I have
To take your heart away

Words
(Words & music: R. B. & M. Gibb)

Margie, you've gone and done it again! How can one person be so clever and exuberant?!    A wonderful remembrance of Elvis!  My favourite songs by him are still "Are You Lonesome Tonight" and "Suspicious Minds"

Take care,
Melissa~

Those blue suede shoes don't dance no more
And, far as I can tell,
There ain't been many check-ins at
That old Heartbreak Hotel.

That darned hound dog is up and gone
Hawaii isn't blue
The teddy bear has lost his hair
And isn't loving you.

Las Vegas isn't viva now
No one to love you tender
The Elvis that we used to love
Has been returned to sender!!

Ah, Margie... First, you have me humming so many Elvis songs and then you included the lyrics to what's probably my all-time favorite BeeGees song... And with my voice, everyone in my office is probably already preparing sympathy cards for whoever's on the receiving end of my version of "I Can't Help Falling In Love" or "All That I Am"... I may send a sympathy card, too! LOL

This is great... I loved it... (let 'em suffer! LOL)

One of the saddest days of my life - August 16, 1977! Cried the whole day and night.

Such memories from this poem Marge. 'Teddy Bear' was the first record I ever owned. Babysat for what seemed like forever to pay for it with my own money. Back in the day, we got 25 cents an hour and families had a lot of kids! Can't remember what the record cost, darn it!

Thanks for the memories - Hugs - Marti

MartiGal~
I'd forgotten you way down here ... sorry~

I 'think' they cost about 99 cents including tax ... I worked at a record shop around that time frame and I think that was close to the going price~
Worth every nickel !

I'm so glad you enjoyed this one~
