Laying down across the root cracked stone
The serpent’s crawling in my ear again
He thinks he has me in his clutches
But he cannot have this, cannot touch this
He cannot have the power, if I’m never letting go
Does he really burn inside, does it make him itch?
Weeping on the solid carnivore infestation
The maggots burrow in my toes again
He thinks, he thinks he’s got me
Though he thinks he smells it, he does not
He cannot down my tower, with a single jagged stone
Does he really burn inside, does it make him hurt?

This was really good.. I felt the struggle with our inner demons, not sure if its intended this way or not. But i really enjoyed reading it.

I tend to have a different take on snake imagery. (and yes, sometimes it's Freudian--grin)

But...

the snake was originally a symbol of wisdom, and taken in that context, this read to me quite spiritually.

Enjoyed this very much.

I am not a religious person, although the snake refference is somewhat like the snake from the bible, one of temptation.  The snake in this is supposed to be the one true source of evil, the one thing in life that wants to take everything you strived to fight for away.  But if we never let go of what we believe in, then these evils cannot have our power...they cannot have what makes us human.  Thank you all for your responces.
