the way she walks

I live within myself

Terror is irrevocably written in the way she walks.
It touches lightly, every step.
And her eyes scan much more than every face,
but takes in a shifted gait, a slight movement of hand.
And her back becomes rigid, her breathing stirred.
Smiling, she hopes no one notices
The way her pace quickens
as she steps aside
and yet never leaves the terror behind.
