Ironic, Isn't It? |

Ironic, isn’t it; That I should be in here While you roam free on the outside? Why am I the one they have to keep track of While you roam where and when you want to; Not reporting to anyone of your where-and-when-abouts? That I am the one living in fear and regret While your conscience relieves you from all responsibility of your action? Ironic, isn’t it; That I am the one who gave and gave and gave While you just took and took and took? And even now you take from me. Taking my peace of mind My sense of security and self-esteem. You’ve stolen the joy I once knew And yet you laugh and roll in glee. Your life continues while mine stands still. Ironic, isn’t it; That the ones causing fear, Imprisonment and Intimidation Should be walking the streets Carefree as waves upon the shore Free to come and go as they please No restrictions or limitations Enjoying life with ease, While we, the battered and broken Live behind locks and cameras Sit in fear and remorse Fretting what lies ahead For our future. Wondering about money Concerned about housing. Can I do this on my own? In a fantasy, The roles would be reversed. Intimidators and Abusers The conscience free, the takers, Would be placed behind locked doors With no access to the community And their days spent in fear Regret and worry about their future, While we, the survivors, Would be enjoying a free, fulfilling life. But… We live in the “REAL WORLD.” Ironic, isn’t it? Jesus lives in my heart! [email protected] [This message has been edited by Musicmaker1969 (04-12-2003 11:39 PM).] |

(big hugggsssssss) Quite ironic indeed, and I can't believe people define this as the "real world" like misery is always going to be the real thing and we can never evolve beyond the tears if we attach this world now to the terminology for "real"! (sad sigh) You speak of this disturbing fact so well, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sheri, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Is this from personal experience or imagination? It is so moving I can hardly think of it as fiction. Whatever, it is a very heart rending piece of work. Barbara Trautman |

Barbara, I wrote this poem out of experience. I am a survivor of multiple sexual abuses in my life and trying to do things according to the laws that govern us. Unfortunately, none of them were ever charged. It's always the victim that is hiding behind walls while the rest walk away. Jesus lives in my heart! |

Musicmaker - hope you don't mind my using your name (?) I just happen to like it. Thank you for being so honest in your reply but I am so sad for you. This isn't a confessional, I know, but I, too, had an unhappy childhood, abused psychologically, not physically. The wounds run deep and stay for so long. I find writing poetry very helpful. Keep it up and perhaps you will find some solace. How can your name be so happy and your life so sad? I know I shouldn't ask but are you very young? I feel so for you. Please keep wriiting. I will watch for you although I don't come to visit very often anymore because of family demands. Barbara PS: Are long poems off-puting, do you think? |

Do you mind my asking, are you still incarcerated? Perhaps you need to write a story about your problems and post it in the prose section. Remember, there are others out here that don't have the gift of words that you have and have no way of expressing their feelings. When you write so powerfully, you give others hope that they, too, perhaps can find hope. I apologize for this addendum, but I couldn't refrain. I am a grandma and I can't bear to think of a young person suffering because of abuse. Barbara, again |

Barbara I am thankful for your kind words. Please understand that I am not in a "real" prison. I am in a prison of my past. My name is Sheri Welna, for those interested. I am 34 years old and newly married. I am a survivor of years of sexual abuse and I find writing poetry and keeping a journal and a diary all help me to work through it. You may contact me if you like at [email protected] It is one of my many addresses. I do appreciate what you are saying though. Write me. Jesus lives in my heart! |

Thanks for Sharing with us your Honesty and Integrity. I can't fully agree about the Prisons part because I think we make our own Prisons with our thoughts and Actions. At this moment my Prisons are anything that disconnects me from the Truth. Which I have too many of. Thanks again for Sharing. Good Will Always, Mystic Dreamer |
