Listening

Laughter in distant sunlight,
Where I lay is dark as night.

Candles at foot and head,
I am the departed newly dead.

Soft footfalls make boards creak.
Wait ,sigh ,and then retreat.

I await different footfalls.
I strain my ears for other calls.

Mourners :You cannot hear or see,
They only call and summon me.

They have not come for you,
Not yet ,not yet !

Arthur,
I love how,
even when yr poems are at their "darkest",
there's a sense not of resignation
but of acceptance.

Your words are a gift to this forum.

Mike
