The night is still It calms my soul The only sound Is the distant toll Of a church bell High above the town Hour on hour It sings its song This time of day Is dear to me To reflect on life In reverie 'Tho by myself I am not alone For I share the night With those who've gone To a world around us That we can't see But I feel their presence 'Round 'bout me |

A great stillness here, aside from the tolling. Liked it fine, EAngel. ~wranx In reply to "which way do we go?", the answer was never "straight", but, "progressively forward". |

Interesting...it painted an image of a small, crowded British town in my mind, sitting alone near the coast. Very lonely yet not. Nice! |

Wranx---You are so right! If the bells were close by, the tolling would break the peacefulness of the night...but they were distant, so it was a very peaceful sound. I appreciated your comments. Thank you! Linda |

Zall, Angel Girl, and D earl Grey---glad you all enjoyed it! I usually write very up-beat poetry on----humour, nature, children... but I also like to express my "Shadow" side here at Dark Poetry. Thanks for dropping by! Linda |

This poem has a great flow to it. I enjoy flowing poems. You written with meaning without trying to search for words that fit. It's hard to do. |
