STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS
~
dark forest
growling
claws
teeth tearing into flesh
fire
howling
forceful
thunder
violent winds
blood
~
of rain
of lighting illuminating the night sky
naked drenched bodies lined with crimson streams racing to the parched ground below
flesh gnarled and torn giving way desert air
bound and blinded and longing for more
spirits ripping through the torso like a violent wave of unearthly malevolence
the ground giving way to pitch water, swallowing both sight and reason
last breath realized one second too late
~
snakes coil about the exposed flesh slowly drifting downward
licking at the wounds, lashing at their backs like whips of wire
all sight and sound have ceased to be as they were, both maddening and of frequent nature
all sensory is put in torpor, slowed and distorted to synchronized with their downfall
caught between longing for lashes and the reality of the fresh wounds to resurface or let the pitch overcome
the pain is remembered, tasted, and replayed in a monotonous fashion as to indoctrinate a sense of discontent
they claw their way through the deep, through the dead, through the calm
the snakes gripping their limbs in an attempt to slow their ascension to the reality of the surface
the lighting flashes periodically give way to visual conception of the true depth of their doing
all which once was and should be is not
realization sinks in and the snakes release repulsed by the conclusion
they drift upwards, coherency returns as they are pulled from the depths by a force that can only be described as the enemy
~
they have returned to the pain
to what they knew to be real, to be truth, not fractured images in pitch
the rain falls upon their bloodied bodies once more
the fluid trickles down, staining their feet
the wounds reopen and the true comfort comes to them
"It may be pain, but at least it's real”
