THE MASK

Concealed behind a mask of laughter,
painted on like a clown.
Sparkling eyes like diamonds,
a smile as bright as the sun.
Not a drop of pain ever shown.
Making others smile & laugh,
though the favor is seldom returned.
I might smile on the outside,
but inside I desperatly ache.
This mask can't hide me forever,
these emotions suppressed,
restraining my tears.
Where can I run?
Where can I hide?
If my mask disappears,
how will I survive?

I know this is serious, but my daughter is currently watching Jim Carey in 'The Mask' on TV, so I actually had a smile on my face when I read this. I'll have to read it again another time, because it is a good expression of what masking is all about.

I think we all wear masks at least some of the time. Nice poem

Thanx midnite--yea I was watchin that movie too when I decided to post this one--lol--Thanx Tracey I definatly agree with that one--& Jesse I miss u too, I know I haven't been here much, I'm a junior in college now, so it keeps me very busy!!But I'll be talkin to ya--
