(Okay, today I recieved the best news I have heard in several years. My father came into my room and wanted to have a talk with me. After twenty-five years of drinking, he is quitting. I have never in my life been so proud of him, because I have not been alive to see him without an alcohol problem. Today is a great day for me... and for my father.)

three hundred pound man
carried for so many years
with a brown bottle
today he dropped the bottle
never have I been so proud

Addiction can be a very difficult thing to break. Encourage him always. BTW, perhaps I should write another war poem and dedicate it to him[like a war against addiction]...

I hope your father is able to destroy this habbit.

BTW, good tanka.

Thanks everyone...
hehe... I see a few of us are beginning to notice the poem attached to the news, and praise that as well. I appreciate it.
There is still a long way to go, but we're fighting the good fight.
Fractal: That might be nice. Thanks for the recognition.

It's good to know that your father is giving up the bottle. It's a bad habit that my dad, and grandpa suffered from.

I hope all goes well.

I hope things go good for him and for you, this can be a major lifestyle change. Nice job on the poem and congrats to your dad for making this decision.

This kind of hurt me to read again... well I posted this a long time ago, but it's not exactly true anymore.  So I hope nobody else gets too excited over it or anything...
Thanks for your replies.

I am so sorry Allan.  I rushed to the bottom of the page to post, congradulating you, just to find the rotten news.  Well, my mom also drinks, and as many times as she has said she would stop in the 14 years of my life, she is still drinking.  And she isnt a responsible drinker, she is just...  whatever.  Anyways, I hope things work out for you.    We're here for you!
