The cartoons are off the air,
and they have canceled the state fair
The swings are empty and the parks are closed
the plot of everything is finally exposed
the day the children died.

Where have the children gone, they died yesteryear
it came true the very thing that i did fear,
as time continued on they were forced to grow old
and now there lies their spirit collecting mold
the day the children died.

Every one saw it coming but no one took a stand
and now we all deserve somekind of reprimand
no more food fights in the cafeteria
now it's just mad hysteria,
the day the children died.

No more birthday parties with loads of cake
that was forced to stop too much was at stake.
No more toys and no more toys R us
it was too much of a hassle and a fus
the day the children died.

The children died not in body but in spirit
they cried all were to busy to hear it
Modern society killed the childs imagination
and replaced it with division and multiplication
the day the children died.

Instead of the long awaited summer vacation
they're reading about the emancipation proclamation
they grew up to fast to quick to have any fun
before they know it their childhoods done
the day the children died.

1,2,3 Oh say can you see by the dawns early light
your pushing the kids into adulthood it's not right
They need to grow to have fun and enjoy their youth
but could you allow that or is it against your couth
the day the children died.

they don't want to grow up their all toys r us kids

this is amazing!!! and exactly why I'm not pushing my kids to grow up....my oldest is turning twelve in a few days......while I am allowing her some new feedoms...I will not allow her too much.....I hear myself saying no, watch cartoons.....no go play.....I can't stand the idea of them not having a childhood of playing and remembering that when they are my age....(30)   thanks for this poem   it's really great!

Yea...go Toys R Us! But I'm sure that's not yer message haha. Well done.....a childhood must be retained as long as possible. Well that's my opinion cuz I'm in no rush to grow up.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I'm in love with my shadow
I admire it daily

I really liked this one alot.  I work with children as part of working towards my major and it truly saddens me to see some of these kids who go straight from toddlerhood to adulthood.  Some of them are forced to being so much older than what they are really are.  So in my opinion this poem totally rocked.
Always,

I love this part.  Genius.
I was really hoping for something really mobid and dark...but this had a lot of good point...meaningful poetry...gotta love it!

Wow, this is really really great.  I keep wondering what happened to my childhood (I still want to be a kid!!!) and I suppose that's where it went.  I like my toys  .  Well, thanks for a great read. Beautiful poem, and kind of sad too.

great sentiments here..i too sometimes lament the unfortunate fact that kids these days are forced to mature early because their parents deprive them of any fun and laughter...

I love how you put that into the poem. It was clever. I ReAlLy love this poem a lot!!   it is horrible that kids have to grow up so fast. they are given to many responsibilities for a child, so then they have no time to go out and play. they lose some of their imagination because of it. its truely sad.   i miss being smaller and watching cartoons and stuff. i still watch them today but its not the same. again this was SO well writen.
lots of love, Dana
