The Last Love

He called to his
friend in his last
minuits of life
A silhouette of a
man emerged from
the shadows, kneeling
by the bed
Life cut short by this
illness thats eats away
at his body after four
years of pills
his friend's one beautiful
now ravaged
his breath shallow
slowly vanishing
he knows it is time to
say good-bye
to his love
"Let go Eric, all will be
well"
"until we meet again"
Eric didn't hear him
he was already
gone.....

Wow regi.......extremely powerful piece here. I really liked this one. So full of sadness......man........this hit, and it hit hard.
Nicely done....one of my favs by you.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I'm in love with my shadow
I admire it daily

Thanks both of you for your replies.  I wrote this last year...after my uncle died of AIDS, for his friend......

So sad. So very, very sad. You always bring out the emotions in me Regi. You are the queen of freeverse. It's an excellently written piece. In my library for sure!

Oh, definitely an amazing piece... the ending is especially powerful, it is packed with sad emotions.
"Until we meet again."  Wow, that was so... well, chivalrous, almost.  Know what I mean?
What a powerful poem... another of Regina's work to grace my personal library.
