I sat beneath the green cloak and quiet shadows, pudgy fingers tightly grasping bark armor. I sit in my fortress. In a world i delicately balanced, between mulberries and silver spiderwebs. It stood watch beyond right field, turning base hits into home runs, as basballs became lost in my maze. They came out wearing purple bruises, testaments to battles fought with over-ripe berries that stain my royal carpet of moss. I held council with my imagination, somewhere between sunlight and soft shadow. Golden beasts of my imaginings drove away the claws of my nightmares and guarded fragile dreams. Now my eyes shine in brilliant memory, brief repite from the weariness that overcomes them. My mind struggles to avoid aimless wandering, that too often finds its way back to reality. My world was much sturdier and safer than this one, and hidden within the seconds of the day, between the leaves and the branches. Today i long for the comfort of my fortress, and wish for the strong arms of the mulberry tree. Sometimes, the things that go unsaid are the only things worth hearing. |

The "now" and "then" are so important in understanding this poem... I had to read it over a few times. Good job on this, Peter! ~Allan Build a man a fire, and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. |

I liked this one tons. Very well done! I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust. |

"Today i long for the comfort of my fortress, and wish for the strong arms of the mulberry tree." Those are my two favorite lines.. and probably the most important. This is a beautiful poem.. Another one that makes me jealous! I love the format and the style. It's very well written. You've expressed yourself so clearly, and made me want to read it over and over. This is another poem of yours that's going straight into my library. Excellent job, love. I enjoyed it very much, baby --Marie subconsciously, i think i can eat so much to make my stomach hurt, instead of my heart. |
