Little Girl Virginia Salter little girl berry patch red-smudged head to toe strawberry streaked as if on war path yet ear to ear smile gives her demeanor quite away hallock in hand other brushing hair from face revealing eye twinkle Cheshire cat grin coated in child-like sin eat ‘n’ eat before dinner succulent fruit of the vine shortcake sits drying on the counter as berries miss their cue and go away with you with your tantalized tongue sparkling brighter muses of the day in her tender, sweetened way tiny seeds as heaven’s stars flicker memories of joy across her smile © January 25, 2001 |

This is so sweet! How could anyone resist a child like this one? |

Thanks, Elizabeth. It's a bit of a composite between my daughter as a child and myself as a child with a tiny bit of conjuring thrown in. glad you enjoyed! |

shortcake sits drying on the counter as berries miss their cue and go away with you ****************** This is a great poem, especially these lines. It brought back memories of my youngest brother, at the age of 2, sitting in the berry patch and eating as fast as he could. What a picture! To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |
