Cherokee Turning

~*Marge Tindal*~

Oh, Cherokee sing your song
astride a horse of paint
Night of moonless sky
across the valley
from over hill
I hear you
still
~

Cherokee guardian of this night
overlooks earth and her plight
Knowing not when the time
shall be-for the rising
of the old Cherokee
Watch and wait
the hour is
late
~

Draw ye nigh from the flood
River red with the blood
of the great Cherokee
Along the trail he
still cries the
wail of the
Cherokee
in me
~

Turning<~~>Turning<~~>Turning
Will they never be learning
Stand down Great Spirit
tend the burning fire
It is now embered
forever to be
remembered
Spirit Fires
of ancient
Cherokee
<~>

Marge you have out done yourself this time.
I remember watching old western shows and them talking about the "Cherokee Trail of Tears". What a dishonor we did to these people. They are not forgotten as long as we have you!!!

Marge, this touched me deeply. As you know, I have Cherokee blood, and this poem really struck a deep chord with me. May the Great Spirit always be with you!

I can't think of a nicer compliment than to know that
two poet friends, that I love and admire,
would talk about this offering.

I am humbly honored, my sweet friend.

Marge,
Your emotions are obvious here. There must be a deep well of feeling within you for this subject. This was quite powerful.

He was a captain and met her.She lived with her tribe along the Delaware river..I am from Delaware..and her name was Ester DeerFoot..so i have native american blood in me. My mother had a pic of her but has since lost it..So i did get to see her..Enjoyed very much Marge

Wonderful Marge. Still trying to reach as deep as you in the spirit of your Native American writings...probably never will as will never attain your perspective or closeness. Again. beautifully done.

BTW...is that a painting, statue, or combination of the two...are copies of it obtainable?

I'd like to see you search the visions of your Indian bloodlines.
The flame burns eternally.

Victoria~
O'Siyo, my sister.
You should search your Indian roots.
