On moonlit nights, I have no doubt,
my scarecrows wander all about.
Release themselves from off their pole
and gaily take a little stroll.
I'm sure they dance upon the lawn
until the night is nearly gone,
then rearrange their hair and clothes,
so at first glance, nobody knows.
But I don't mind if they have fun,
just so they're back to greet the sun
in their appointed place so they
can keep the catbirds all away.
They seem to know when fruit is ripe
and used to flutter in and swipe
a berry here, a berry there
and I could hardly get my share.
Though they complain and mew a lot,
these faithful garden guards I've got,
just stare at them, until they see
the berries do belong to me!

Loved this! I have one in my yard...the birds sit on his hat waiting...and then eat all the fruit when it is just perfectly ripe. I must be doing something wrong.

I love this Trillium dear. No scarecrow animated or not could keep the birds from my cherries. I have trees with fruit I have never tasted because the robins and the starlings eat it all before it is ripe enough for me. Joyce

Thanks Martie: My scarecrows, all four of them, sit around my raspberry patch and they are all life size. I have wigs on them and colorful clothes. They really keep the birds away. I move them around periodically
so they won't get used to seeing them in one place.

This was a lot of fun. I like the dialect. Very easy read. Thanks.
