We place too much emphasis on time, its dimensions overwhelm us from the weight of a minute to the passage of life by degrees - we are so ruled. The present becomes history, sooths, rounds edges of the terrors of war, of genocide, of human grief; but also carries warm reflections, the only true keepsakes. Time represents change, in insights, popular concepts; in landscapes of nomadic patterns, finally, in our own selves, we who have followed solstices, through transformations of seasons with calendars tied to the divinity. The young enjoy its slow rhythms, unfazed by the pressing of the clock, in their scaled down appreciation for the movement of insects, and the russets of sunsets, only the adult world rushes them to be on time. © ’01 Corinne Bailey [This message has been edited by Corinne (edited 03-20-2001).] |

Corinne, I admire your poetic insight. The passage of time is seen so differently by the youth and the more mature. This is superbly composed, thanks for it. Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

This is a lovely, well thought poem. It would be nice to live in a world without time. We would not have to grow old. It woul be rather disorganized, but nice. Joyce |

In this world of hurried and busy even children are "watching the clocks." When I slow down to reflect I come to passions to read and it's poetic verse like this that brings the world into perspective. A great read!
