Summer Kitchen A few short lines, a song I hadn’t heard in years By reflex still, I reached to turn it down Then realized I was smiling It didn’t hurt, anymore And for the first time, I remembered Your summer kitchen How the sun came through the curtains much too early The coffee pot we wore out in a season Beads from some retro 60’s store Your mother’s quilt, her voice, her smile The kids running in after school First to see me, then in to see you (Because I was the fun one) Your summer kitchen Where we made love long after the crickets sang Slept without the need of dreams Woke to warmth that only lovers know Talked for hours about the things that we would do Your summer kitchen I made it my home, you made it your heart But we didn’t make it forever Now holds the lawn mower, bikes and such I still miss you, I still think of you And today when I heard that song I still loved you But today it didn’t hurt |

Ah, this brought back memories. Songs, smells, the beach - all those things that trigger our memories. I remember having the bends for 6 months one year, and suddenly one day realizing I could actually function without a sharp pain in my heart. Good write. "I am not now that which I have been." |

"Unneeding to dream" great line. I wish I would have written it. I heard someone once say that there will come a time when you remember, but their will be no pain. It seems to be axiomatic for most humans. I am glad you found that place. AT "Be your own hero. Save your interior landscape. As in all mythos the blight can be defeated and the land turned back to freedom and fertility. [This message has been edited by ATelamon (edited 03-20-2001).] |

This is a very nice poem, I'm glad love didn't hurt today. A quarter of a century must pass, for the writer to understand what and why he writes. |

Thanks all...This was a relationship I had while in college and the song thing really happened the other day. Just reminded me that all pain heals eventually and is sometimes, if we're lucky, replaced my memories of love. |

Good poem. It's so nice when we can re-live past times without pain. Betty Lou Hebert |

it's always good when the pain heals and we only remember the love. . . thanks for the memories my friend. . . ![]() --------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |

Your summer kitchen Where we made love long after the crickets sang Slept without the need of dreams Woke to warmth that only lovers know Talked for hours about the things that we would do Your summer kitchen I made it my home, you made it your heart But we didn’t make it forever Now holds the lawn mower, bikes and such I still miss you, I still think of you And today when I heard that song I still loved you But today it didn’t hurt =========================== "Slept without the need of dreams Woke to warmth that only lovers know" JLR this is a wonderful walk thru memories of the heart... I loved the whole feel of this.. and yes...its a great moment in time .. when we realize the pain and loss is gone and what remains is a respect for the things shared. And when we can smile when the song comes on... its a great release. cool write. oh you speak to me in riddles |

JLR -- This was too lovely! It's a funny thing how healing sneaks up on you like that. It's an awesome thing when you can reach that place where you can feel only the memory and not the pain..Ah, I'll be back to re-read this one for sure. ![]() |

...you took such a simple, everyday room and turned it into something special, filled with bittersweet memories and sentiment, without being sappy. I truely enjoyed this writing...really great stuff! Jellybean King |
