Words are empty without memories The breath of living emotions Which give unspoken meaning Transcending words Between a Father and a Son Though our blood binds us We share no such memories That I can recall Birthday parties missed Thanksgiving, Christmas New Years Waiting up all night Until one day I stopped waiting Forgot who I was waiting for And why The lesson learned that such Was not important Not to you Nor I No reason to be hurt, or angry And I wasn't I am still not Just feel distant, and alone Even when I am not So whenever you call me long distance On New Year's Eve I'm quite happy and surprised Leaves me wondering why Why we didn't talk more often Like this When I was waiting there For you I sense fear in your voice Now that you are old And alone I've grown too strong to be sad We trade good-byes Hang up the phone I sit in the cold dark hallway And try hard Harder, yet To forget |

It's never too late to speak more to your dad. You have grown and so has him. Some people take a lifetime to mature, mentally. Anyhow, forgiving him for his past mistakes, will make you happier. Well written and thanks for sharing, goodluck, Jellybean King. |

Strength in this wonderfully penned poem. And so very true to real life. "I am not now that which I have been." |

Well Russ, if you ever figure out how to do it can you let me know...I haven't talked to my Dad in 15 years! Great piece, and I fully understand this - all too well. |
