I am sick and tired from boredom of this river, tired of these stars strewn across the skies, groggy in silence slapping at phantom rocks cutting lava shapes into the base of my back cold still by yesterday's love. Fear envelops the hands of the watchman. Sweetheart, it's time. I know it must be concealed there behind that innocent handful of wildflowers. Afraid? I know if I put out my hand, I will touch an old self with white bared teeth. Faithless, we have come here this morning on empty stomachs and aching hearts. I open my stupid, pleading cupped hands… But this word love-- this word grows dark, heavy, eating its way through stars until we too dim transparent. Lord, I tell you I am without purpose in this Holy Land. My hands grieve in this bright sunlight, this dawning of a new day. Too late I walk the Dead Sea shore. One glance and my life turns to a pillar of salt where I stand. "I am not now that which I have been." |

Okay time for a banana split! You go deep on me and I bring out the bananas! Sometimes on our journey we get stuck and have to wonder why, that is when our faith kicks in and gives us the answers. I think everyone has "needed a banana split" at least once during their journey, I know I have needed many. Your metaphors were as usual "almost" out of my scope, but not quite! BRAVO! This was truly poetry as good as it gets! "One glance and my life turns to a pillar of salt where I stand." (fabulous line!) [This message has been edited by Mysteria (edited 03-18-2001).] |

Could there be more out there? Certainly Will it find me? ... Not today ... this was my first feeling when I read your poem |

Mysteria: I truly love banana splits with Neopolitan ice cream. Yes, I realize the number of calories involved. catalinamoon: thank you so very much, you made me feel like a poet. snowpants: much gratitude for your encouragement. Rex Allen McCoy: perhaps there is more out there, but truly I would protect you from any harm. Lady In White: thank you for pondering... "I am not now that which I have been." |

This one has me thinking and it strikes close to home. I hope no old self pops out to bite me. Though with me they might. Best Wishes Rosemary "Yet each man kills the things he loves...some do it with a bitter look, some with a flattering word" Oscar Wilde |
