His life was heavily burdened.
He was very tired that day.
Just to please his sweet Mary
He agreed to attend the play.

Mary was sorting his papers;
Leaving them, when time to retire.
Her maid in a cleansing frenzy,
Threw everything into the fire.

He had many functions to attend;
Some would have to be missed.
When Jackie said she'd go along,
Dallas came to the top of the list.

A child who had been ailing,
Told her mom she was feeling fine.
No need to miss another day
Of her classes at Columbine.

In Oklahoma City, a mom
Was caught in a traffic delay.
She was late in getting to her job
In the Federal Building that day.

There are times the simplest actions
Bring results far beyond recall.
For even the smallest decisions,
There is need for a crystal ball.

What....a reminder of history....I followed every line....

but IF we could change the course of events...what then?

The simplest of actions......even the turning of a grain of sand.
Well written poem.

Joyce~
Tearfully, I inserted those I've known -
who were taken away by such 'lack of a crystal ball'.

A father at work
welding away -
blown to bits
by dynamite and caps
left in the way

A brother driving home
to spend Fourth Of July
with his new son
A drunk's foolish actions
on the same highway
exploding family hearts

A sister at home
who suffered, fell
and could not reach her phone
A family mourns

A sister's fiance`
with marriage license in his van
An unknown assailant emerges
Pow - Pow - Pow !
No wedding band

I relive them all with a broken heart.
Your piece reached in and touched the pain of me ...
but, they are each worth the remembering tears.

Excellent and thought-provoking... and heartbreaking... as are Marge's additions to the list of cruel coincidence.

Thanks to all of you for responding. One moment too soon or too late, one little turn and everything changes. It has happened in my life. Too often. Love, Joyce
