There had to be one person
who would know me
and protect me;
just downright love me.

Perhaps one in a billion
is a lofty request.
May I ask anyway?
Just for the record,
I already asked years ago.

Doesn’t everyone have
that one special
secret,  something we do,
or a feeling that
no human being
ever hears about and when
you finally
trust someone-
God, what if you're wrong?

How does it feel to know
you may have blown it?

Do you feel like yesterday’s
recycled waste
that someone forgot to wrap
in newspaper?

Do you feel like worms
are eating your heart
and chewing on the rest
of your insides.

Maybe no one has
experienced this
kind of rejection,
this kind of brutal
emotional rape;
I have.

Did you ever hear of a man
marrying
you in his heart
when he’s already married?
What does that do to a woman?

Has anyone ever been pulled in,
sucked in, vacuumed out
and rolled away to storage.

Is limbo a place where hearts
bend and eventually break for
lack of care?

I found someone who nurtures me.
Oh, trust again?   Only a fool-
only a fool would turn away from
giving them a chance.  Only a fool
would live an emotional cripple and
only a fool would stop dreaming.
So for as long as I am nurtured,
I;ll stay, welcomed!  And I also,
will nurture-
him.

A friend, and ok, maybe a lover
in my dreams
but what’s wrong with that?
Sure, he has a beautiful body
and in the
right setting I’d spread myself
all over him
like  strawberry jelly on fresh
toast.

In my dreams he is preserved.

I go there everynight for you see…
there is no “ticket to ride” my dreams……

emily, this was touching in its pain and sorrow and the whole damned world knows by now that I can relate---and loved the touch of humor at the end. was sweet! (sorry couldn't resist the pun...) Thanks for the read!

*Smiling here*. Wonderfully written, Emily. I think most of us can relate to this one in one way or another. The end was the best part.

Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats
