Your Words
Virginia Salter

your words pull on me
like so much gravity
trickling the life from me
as if my spirit is falling away
in a slow moving waterfall
drop by drop
a gentle cascade
that I somehow cannot stop
though there is not speed
in the dripping
I have not the power
nor the knowledge
to stop it
to retain some remnant of me

Prayer
Prayer
that’s what I need
to shield me
to carry me
away from you clutches
your influence
your reckless desire
to undo me
to leave me
to the vultures
the buzzards
that lay in wait
for the carrion
of my soul

Prayer
that’s the only hope
the only realm
where I might find
solace
safety
renewal...
Prayer

To fear, to love ,to surrender. It's tough to say no to love. Sometimes we need a prayer. Well done!

A quarter of a century must pass, for the writer to understand what and why he writes.
