Tough Love I know that most times you thought me hard You were always cautious and on your guard It seems that this gap we just couldn't close And of my love for you, well it never shows Most of the time I was there to voice reason If your mom took my side, well that was treason Many an argument left you feeling defeated As sermon upon sermon to you were repeated There never seemed to be time for us uniting Just enough time for more and more fighting But this wasn't my choice and in time you will see The path you were walking would not set you free Yes it was my love for you that gave me the strength To work with conviction though it kept you at length I was hoping to give you just that one bit of insight That would set you on track, give the ability of flight And I'm happy to tell you that I did my job well Even though many times you had wished me to hell For you've grown from darkness to a life of kind thought Emerged the type of a person that we knew your soul sought It's now safe to tell you that I've have loved you no less Despite all the hard times and yes all of the stress My love has been constant and my eyes have seen tears But in softness I'd lose you, yes those were my fears I'm sorry if you felt unloved in your growing years Rest assured that it was love, let me make this point clear For sometimes true love means tough love, it has to be so To straighten direction and good morals bestow Now we can build our lives the way they should be Yes now is the time to finally set our love free For you now are a daughter that fills me with pride The hard times we went through, in the past will reside From now on in our lives we will walk side by side You'll find no more scoldings and sermons are needed Your soul now with love and with kindness is seeded I can now say I love you, with all of my heart Let's embrace life my daughter, with brand a new start. Completely beautiful. The depths of the love within this is outstanding. Brought tears to my eyes. Lovely, Brian. To hold tomorrow we must first be willing to let go of yesterday. |
