I Know This Poet I recognize the essence of your face You are a poet friend from Passions place Your eyes resemble those of one who’s seen The glimmer of an unrelenting dream I think I recognize your open heart For I have been a witness to that part Of love that bathed you on a pool sublime Of sorrow that you wrote between the lines I think I’ve heard that silken voice before Written in a lovely verse of yours As smooth as was the velvet rose you penned As warm and loving as a poet friend I know not of your age or of your race I only have an image of your face But I can swear I know just who you are For I can pick you out among the stars I’d recognize you in the House of God Or walking on the beach on old Cape Cod I’d know you in a Kansas field of wheat Or in a flower shop, lovely and sweet I’d see you walk among Canadian pines And say there are two precious friends of mine I’d see you stroll along historic street Where liberty was born, where poets meet You are the cowboy writing songs of love A pastor with some words from heaven above A white dove perched upon my window sill Your ballads give my little heart a thrill You wrote from way down under, Australian lands And words of beauty flowed from fragile hands You stood upon black sands and sang to me New Zealand lullabies across the sea I think I’ve seen you down in New Orleans At least I heard the music in my dreams It was a poem you wrote so full of life It made my heart forget it’s painful strife I’ve felt your loss, I’ve known your love, I hear your words They are the warbling sounds of summer birds They are the whispering winds of winter’s cold They are the life anew, the days of old I know your heart, your mind, your poetry Though I may never really come to see The Passions poet, writing from afar I could pick you out among the stars Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 03-06-2001).] |

This is beautiful Elizabeth! You sure traveled all over the world and touched the hearts of all your wonderful poet friends. I love the expression of knowing the Passions poet who is writing from afar and even though you've never seen their face you could pick them out amoung the stars.........that's very endearing of you and you're very special for thinking this way and then writing it down for all to see...excellent!! The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges. |

Liz, this is a beautiful description of how we have all touched each other. Although we have never actually seen each other's faces, as you say, we could pick each other out from the stars... and you are one of the first that I would be able to pick out, my friend. Thank you for honoring us with this post. "Men judge generally more by the eye than by the hand, for everyone can see and few can feel."-Machiavelli |

What a wonderful tribute you've written to people we know so well through their hearts. Though their faces may be unknown to us, their voices speak to our souls... beautiful! |

Liz this is the best! You're such an awesome poet. Helen Steiner Rice being one of my favorites, and you belong right up there with her in my book. Always writing something so touching to the reader. You remind me so much of her writings. This (well needed today) made my spirit soar. |

He is off-line for a bit as he is in the middle of a move for a job promotion. But I read this gift of your pen, to him on the phone this morning and he asked me to tell you how special you are to him and thank you for the many times you have inspired him and made him strive to be a better poet. You are a major part of Passions heart. we love ya poet of grace. Some find subtlety in strangers some find subtlety alone Your eyes, you see everything my eyes,I see its all together now and I know. ~candlebox~ |

What magic does your pen relay To speak of all in such a way This verse does bring pride to all That answer to the poet's call For this I thank you dearest friend My humble praise to you I send May your words forever grace The minds of this human race Brian |

It always amazes me how you can get to know someone just from the words they write. This was a wonderful portrait of how we see each other here. Very original! LW Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

Elizabeth, what a beautiful tribute you have penned for Passions Poets. It is amazing how we get to know each other through our words Wonderfully expressed love it. Maree I may know the word, but not say it I may know the truth, but not face it I may hear a sound, a whisper sacred and profound but turn my head, indifferent.
