The Irony of Love and Loss

Held in the clutches of abandon
her spirit struggles for liberation
a yearning burns deep inside
set by the flame which burns around
the soul of a lost love

the gnawing ache, given life within
her heart at his renouncement,
swells to immense confines

her body, once flooded with passion,
now bears a steel cold deficiency…
the flow of desire through her veins
having been embalmed by his glacial hand

such irony--feelings of helplessness
in finding his love--and then in it’s loss
the being lost in his kiss—and lost by his abandon
swept away to a place she’s never been before
soaring to new heights—falling to endless depths

so much is the irony of her yearning…
a yearning for his touch as equally strong--
as the yearning for freedom
from the clutches of abandon….

Wow...

quote:
her body, once flooded with passion,
now bears a steel cold deficiency…

having been embalmed by his glacial hand

well done...

I have to agree with Karilea this is a wonderful work and the title sets it up so well... that yearning heart keeping the author in an abyss of abandonment and from there seeking the same desire that got her there in the first place... so ambivalent this thinking...well written Annie!!

The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges.
