Cats
Virginia Salter

One cat, two cats,
three cats, four

clawing at
the patio door

Striped ones,
hyped ones,
ones that
slash your nerves

Gray ones,
white ones,
ones with
elan, verve!

Mousers,
pouncers,
cats that
meow and hiss.

Crazy ones,
loony ones,
ones you want
to dis.

Where does one find them?
Then what does one do?
When you want to get away
from this wild, crazy zoo?
