The future isn’t what it used to be;
there were those promises you made to me

they fell away or turned to brass
no longer could they come to pass

In good faith, you’d uttered them,
now they’re naught but tattered hem

Unraveled, weak, useless chatter
words that did, but now don’t matter

But I have a God, His promise lives
He’ll bring me through what this world gives

Though your promises, as well as mine,
often cease to stand through time,

the ending hour will claim my soul,
assured I’m His, for that’s our goal

There should never be any goal put ahead of giving our life to the "him" and you say it so well. It is afterall the only promise we can truely count on without fear of it being taken away. Wonderful write and so much truth in this one of yours.
