" The Mirror Has One Face " by Boot Sector

One Face
Virginia Salter

The mirror has one face
yet I’d think it would have two
because of things I’ve done
and what I’ve said to you.

To prevaricate
would never be my plan
but I have in hopes
that you might hold my hand.

Hiding all the fear
I felt inside
so you’d not run away,
but would abide.

Afraid to let you see
my every doubt
I harbored all the pain
from getting out.

When friends would inquire
my reticence
the words I spoke
just seemed to make no sense.

They were not in accord
with what I claimed
when speaking from my heart,
as I proclaimed.

To show them
a clearer view of who I be,
seemed much easier
than the face I let you see.

I go on hoping
that you are as the mirror
and one face is all you see
when you are near.

Yet some day
I know I must come clean
if a true and honest love
is to be gleaned.

It's a scary proposition, to let another see the 'real' face that we keep to ourselves! I do believe that we all, as humans, are capable of many faces to meet many needs. VAS, I do enjoy reading your writings!!

Live...Love...Be grateful for both!!

This reminds me of the many times when friends have told me "you don't have to be so (fill in the blank, there were plenty of mistakes to choose from *G*)" When the truth is, I really did... for I'd rather someone reject me than risk them falling for a pretense I wouldn't be able to uphold. *S* Great writing!

I've always hated mirrors, can't pass by one without needing a shave! Hey, I liked this.
