The city of masks whose grayness reflects indifference,--
Venice, you are bound to suffer the fate of Atlantis.
But as for now, the generous muse, Clio, grants us
the falling grains of the hourglass,-- foggy evenings.

The walls hold coldness like furnaces hold ardor.
The soul freezes solid. The woeful eyes
spill tears in waiting, making the mercury rise.
Tears flood the streets, making the eye a martyr.
