James...he was a friend of mine. somehow I feel that he still is... he had the walk and talk of rough and somehow smiled a poet's grin. Sweet brown eyes..so soft and true and when you spoke? they stayed on you intensity in feathered glance, with blushing looks of mating dance... he could hold two at once and make you feel the only one... always he had kind words sweet whenever we perchanced to meet. then one day he fell in love, and proudly told us all what of, and then he showed us all one night the secret of his smile's delight. She was tan, and blonde, blue eyed, and played guitar with gentle hands and though I wept to see him sigh? I whispered, "James, I understand." "Thank you." and he gripped my hand. A gentle tear, from gentle man. He adored her--plain to see-- and so did I--she was that sweet, amazed to see him change his skin, I watched my James be born again. He learned to open up the doors and dared the others that were bore-- he learned with her, to dance real slow... Amazed, I watched my sweet James grow. And then one day, as he stood tall, I watched him as he took his fall. His lover found another game... my James, My James--forever changed. For months again, he could not smile his thoughts adrift a thousand miles and then one night, as stab of knife he heard the news-- the blackest blues-- his love was now another's wife. I sat with him, and watched him drink. Each shot a piece of heart in sink. I watched him as he did not weep. His soft brown eyes grew cold and deep. And then he said, "I've got to go-- I've got to try--surely you know..." and kissed me once upon the head. In the morn? my friend was dead. He took his bike out for a ride, to reclaim the woman of his pride he hit the bridge at deadly speed, he rode intensity of need-- and as he met the deadly curve his hands did not adjust to swerve-- he hit the side my sweet James died dreaming of his everlove HE SHOULD HAVE FLOWN-- my brown eyed dove (why can't I cushion all I love?) always I remember him-- a lover's leap he took from bridge-- Guiltily, we cried and lived. But James? Sweet James...I sing your song. And pray I'll find a love that strong. |

Hey...thank you all, but wasn't sure I did James justice here...but is a sad true story. He was thrown from his Harley on impact, right over the side of The Greater New Orleans Bridge. And the guilt is with us all....NEVER NEVER let your friends drive drunk---altho admittedly, it's kind of hard to take away the keys to a drunk biker's Harley...but? I should have had him arrested. Oh...and sorry for the sadness, but I always think of him this time of year---he was such a "luv"---sighs and hugs to all. oh...and btw...the song we sing for him is James Taylor's "Sweet Baby James"... (love you always James...) and don't mind me guys, I just like to send that out into cyberspace and hope that somehow he knows. |
