“COMFORT OF A WILLOW”
by
Bill Charles
~~~~
Willow is her gracious name, standing tall by the stream,
she’s elegant but soft,
and she bows her head with grace…
I sit down beside her, but I would be called ‘Sorrow’,
and I also bow, but it’s from the tears,
flowing down my face…
Willow embraces the still water, for peace is her virtue,
and I feel a touch on my shoulder,
as she comforts me…
From my eyes flow, another waterway to the ground,
and she holds me ever closer,
wiping all the tears she can see…
Willow stands tall by the stream, bowing her lovely head,
“All is not lost”, she says,
as I feel the gentle touch of her pillow…
“Your sorrow I take, your heartbreak will no longer reign,
for you will feel all of my caresses,
and know, the ‘Comfort Of A Willow’”…
Gentle and open. I've enjoyed your writing style........A beautiful writing.
So many passages in your poem allow your reader to see and feel the willow's touch, Bill, on physical, emotional and cerebral levels. A good show of metaphorical imagery. Thanks for it.
Bill,
This was so comforting and peaceful. Wonderful writing about love, loss, and letting go.
Bill
Sometimes you need someone or something to talk to and the willow listened to you and gave you comfort. Beautifully done. I enjoyed the visit.
Bill...
Willows are so beautiful and comforting, I agree....but they can never take the place of a good friend with arms outstretched.....
Beautiful! I was looking at the trees today and almost wrote a poem. They were bone, tan and umber, living lumber reaching into a cerulean dream, stroking the firmament with their bony appendages. Trees are so amazing! As I learn of their unique differences, I come to be more in awe of their Creator each time.
Thanks for sharing this poem, Bill.
Bill
I can just picture you under a willow on a river bank, leaning against the tree with tears coming down your face. Excellent imagery. I feel like I am right there with you handing you the kleenex.
nakdthoughts - such pleasant words from a pleasant friend. Thank you.
dreamkeeper - thank you for your gracious words about this writing. I glad that you enjoyed it.
Meadowmuse - I thank you for your words about this writing. I wanted to write this to have whom ever read it, to feel as if they were there. Your words tell me that perhaps this is the case.
catalinamoon - thank you for your kind reply.
Lone Wolf - I feel comfort every time I read it, and know the willow.
Ariana - yes, I have sat near and under this tree, and have talked. I pray that she was listening to me, which I believe that she was.
Sunnyone - you do have much wisdom, a good friend with outstreched arms can't be beat.
VAS - thank you for the most gracious comments. And yes, trees are very amazing, and I love them, especially a big ole willow, or perhaps an oak standing there. I'm glad that I could share it with you.
Taffetta - I have done just that under the willow on the river bank. And at the time, I could have used that kleenex. Thanks for coming by and expressing your thoughts.
